The wildlife of Mount Rainier is extremely versatile; the park is about 58% forest the lower elevations are covered in western hemlock, Douglas fir, and western red-cedar. The higher elevations are mostly: Pacific silver fir, Alaska yellow cedar, western white pine, and noble fir. For animals there are Columbian black-tailed deer, Douglas squirrels, noisy Stellar's jays and common ravens along with several hundred species of insects. 56 mammal species; 11 species of amphibians and five species of reptiles; more than 229 species of birds; 8 species of native fish.
